Pandit Jasraj— Hisar was home to celebrated Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj. Jasraj made his stage debut at the age of 22 in the court of Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah, and went to be honoured with the Padma Shri in 1975, the Padma Bhushan in 1990, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2000. 

Jasraj has played a significant role in popularising the cultural innovations of India’s semi-classical music.


Uday Bhanu Hans— Uday Bhanu Hans moved to Hisar with his family as a 21-year-old in 1947. In 1966, he was given the title of the State Poet of Hisar. Later, he went on to win the Sur Puruskar in 2006 and Haryana Sahitya Rattan Samman by the Haryana Sahitya Akademi in 2009.
Mashkoor Hussain Yaad — Mashkoor Hussain Yaad, an Urdu poet, novelist and scholar, was born in Dabwali, Hisar. He was popularly known as Yaad – his pen name – which he later went on to add to his formal name. Even before graduating from school, Yaad was made editor of the newspaper Pukar. In his capacity as editor, Yaad closely observed and documented India's independence movement and the Pakistan movement. In 1999, Yaad was awarded the Pride of Performance award, and in 2011, the Sitara-i-Imtiaz award for his contributions to literature.
